The Metairie location of World of Beer
(4100 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, 504-266-2689) is rolling out several new programs this summer. The restaurant now serves a weekday lunch menu featuring Louisiana dishes such as jambalaya, red beans and crawfish pasta.
Also launching this summer is a partnership program with three breweries: San Francisco's Anchor Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewery from Colorado, and Southern Tier Brewing Company from New York State. Each week, one of the breweries sends World of Beer a keg of beer not available anywhere except its own tap room. One such keg will be tapped every Friday.
June focuses on Anchor Brewing, and on June 5, World of Beer kicks off the program by tapping California Uncommon, a Kolsch-style beer made with Meyer lemons. Customers posting photos of the summertime beers on social media with the hashtag #WOBtrip are eligible to win brewery trips to Dogfish Head, Anchor and Breckenridge breweries.
In July, four special beers from Oskar Blues — whose beers were most recently introduced in Louisiana — will be tapped each week: REEB Rye’d IPA, a rye IPA hopped with Columbus, Centennial, Cascade and Chinook hops; Judas Porter, a smoked English porter; Grandma’s Pils, a pre-Prohibition style pilsner made with barley and corn; and Death By Coconut, an Irish porter aged with coconut and dark chocolate.
August will feature Southern Tier beers and the special beers will be announced later this summer.
World of Beer is implementing happy hour prices on June 22. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, select beers will be offered for $4; there will be $6 wine and cocktail specials; and there will be $5 appetizers.
A Warehouse District World of Beer location is expected to open on Julia Street in early or mid August, says General Manager David Coffin.
