Marcello’s Restaurant and Wine bar
(715 St. Charles Ave., 504-581-6333), the wine shop and rustic Italian restaurant hybrid on St. Charles Avenue, will open a third location in Metairie next year.
The Sicilian-focused wine bar will be taking over the space at 4860 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, which currently houses Coyote Blues,
the Louisiana-based Mexican restaurant chain.
Marcello’s owners Gene Todaro Sr. and Jr. are partnering with Coyote Blues’ parent-company owner, Kevin Moody, to revamp the space into an Italian restaurant mirroring their two existing bistros (the other Marcello’s is in Lafayette). According to a news release, the Coyote Blues chain will be “venturing into a new direction” that requires less square footage. The owners of Marcello’s have been looking for a new location that's large enough to incorporate a sizable wine collection.
“Metairie has a big population, and those people frequent our downtown restaurant,” Todaro Jr. said, adding that the new 6,500-square-foot space will have a large, stand-alone bar, a patio, a private banquet space and ample parking.
“Our concept is a good one for multiple locations," Todaro said. "There’s a ton of people out there with a lot of appreciation for food and wine.”
Citing steep real estate prices, Todaro says it’s “hard for a smaller independent restaurant to open up … in Metairie. Our partnership with the Moody Company has helped us with that hurdle.”
It was not immediately clear what would happen with the existing Coyote Blues and if the owners plan on opening a separate Metairie location.
Marcello's Restaurant and Wine bar will open the new location in January 2016. For more information, visit the restaurant's website here.
