The team behind Lower Garden District coffee hotspot HiVolt Coffee
opens their offshoot HiVolt Bakery
(5720 Magazine St.) next week.
The bakery takes over the Uptown spot formerly occupied by P’s & Q’s, which closed late last year. HiVolt proprietors Benji and Laura Lee already had been running a Counter Culture Coffee operation in the store, but will now also tout a full bakery operation spearheaded by baker Liz Hollinger.
Those familiar with the Lower Garden District hub can expect a similar menu at the new bakery with breakfast sandwiches and toast options, including the Ozzy Plate made with poached eggs on a bed of quinoa with avocados, tomatoes and a kefir dressing, and a smoked salmon toast with herbed cream cheese on a baguette.
Breakfast pastries including muffins, scones, cookies, brownies, biscuits, brioche and quiche round out the menu and there will be plenty of vegan and gluten-free selections, Benji Lee says.
Counter Culture Coffee will be featured including drip and iced espresso drinks and single-origin pour-overs.
The team has been working on renovating the petite Magazine Street space for the past month; the bakery will include counter seating and a few outside tables and chairs when finished. Lee says he expects the bakery to open for business the weekend of Feb. 27.
HiVolt Bakery will be open 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesday through Sunday.
