French Quarter institution Tujague’s (823 Decatur St., 504-525-8676) is celebrating its 160th anniversary in May.
To celebrate the milestone, the restaurant is planning a series of events throughout the year, including a special exhibit at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum (1504 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., 504-569-0405) featuring artifacts and memorabilia from the restaurant.
In a nod to the year of the restaurant's founding, an $18.56 three-course lunch special will be offered starting May 1 and continue throughout the year. There is a choice of seafood gumbo or fried oyster wedge salad for a starter. Entrees include Gulf oyster and shrimp courtbouillon served over rice, filet mignon with garlic confit, potatoes and vegetables, or a shrimp, oyster or soft-shelled crab BLT po-boy. The restaurant’s signature bread pudding will be served for dessert.
House wines, well cocktails, bloody marys and mimosas are $3 during the special.
“It’s truly amazing to have a 160th birthday and it couldn’t have happened without our loyal customers and visitors from near and far who have walked through our doors for over a century and a half,” owner Mark Latter said in a prepared statement. “We’ve got a lot of fun things planned this year and hope everyone will join in the festivities.”
Other events include guest chef dinners, a contest and other events.
