(1117 Montegut St.), the charming 9th Ward French wine bar and bistro, has been named one of the 10 best new restaurants in the U.S. by Bon Appétit magazine
The culinary magazine’s annual list was released
Tuesday, Aug. 16 and called the indoor-outdoor spot “the most romantic French restaurant in the world.” The list included winners from all over the country — from Asheville, North Carolina to Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles.
N7, which was number 10 on the list, is from owners Aaron Walker and Yuki Yamaguchi. The couple opened the spot quietly in late November, garnering a buzzy following for being a “secret” restaurant mostly due to the fact that the owners eschewed all forms of publicity when launching the business. What began as a casual wine bar quickly blossomed to a full-swing restaurant when word got out.
When I reviewed N7
earlier this year, I too, was charmed while dining at the ramshackle chic bistro tucked away on Montegut Street, even though the owners at the time stressed that their ambitions were less restaurant-oriented and more about providing guests with a casual wine bar aesthetic.
The spot debuted with a natural wine list and a short dinner menu that highlighted simple French bistro fare with Japanese accents and included an selection of imported canned fish and seafood.
Earlier this month, Bon Appétit
announced its picks for the country's best 50 new restaurants
across the U.S. before narrowing down the list for the Hot 10. The Ace Hotel’s Italian stunner Josephine Estelle,
Besh Group bakery and cafe Willa Jean
, and Lafayette’s Pop’s Po-Boys
were included in the original list but didn’t make the final cut.
