We know, we know — you want hard-hitting investigative stories, breaking news, City Hall probes, political scandals and all that.

And you got some of that this year, including Jeanie Riess' look at Uber in New Orleans, an omnibus issue about pot ("Louweedziana"), Clancy DuBos' reasons "Why Bobby Jindal Will Never, Ever Be President," our second installment of The New New Orleans (actually, you clicked on that a lot), Jules Bentley's polarizing first-person essay "Sober in New Orleans," Henrick Karoliszyn's look at the danger of black-market silicone implants, Kari Dequine Harden's followup on Honduran refugee children in New Orleans and Matt Brennan's two-part series on Louisiana film tax credits.

But what were the most clicked-on stories on Blog of New Orleans and Best of New Orleans?

Here's what you really were searching for and reading ...

Watch Anthony Davis reject shots from little kids and reminisce about his favorite toys

Posted By on Wed, Dec 24, 2014 at 3:47 PM

Here's something to put you in the holiday spirit: Anthony Davis absolutely destroying a bunch of little kids on a toy basketball hoop.

OK, the more touching moment is Davis buying presents for the kids, but him playing basketball with the kids is definitely the funniest part. The video comes via Bleacher Report, which interviewed Davis while he and fellow Pelicans' teammates purchased toys for the team's annual toy drive. In the video, Davis reminisces about his favorite toys as a kid (Power Rangers and the aforementioned hoop) and comments on how he's still just a big kid. The video is fun, endearing and festive. Or basically the opposite of the Saints' season.

Also, it's a reminder that Davis is just 21 years old and it's gonna be a lot of fun seeing this big kid grow up (just another reason to jump on the Pelicans' bandwagon).

Get over the Saints season by jumping on the Pelicans bandwagon

Posted By on Tue, Dec 23, 2014 at 9:39 AM

So Who Dat Nation is a big bundle of sadness for Christmas but this dumpster fire of a season only lasted as long as it did because the NFC South was somehow even worse. But fear not sports fans: Anthony Davis and the Pelicans are here to relieve your sorrow!

In case you missed it Sunday night, Davis went off on the Oklahoma City Thunder and straight dominated. His 38 points and 12 rebounds were astonishing enough but his stat line was made even more impressive by how easy Davis made it all look. Check out the video highlighting all of Davis' points against the Thunder and marvel at how clinical he was. Seriously. Astonishing.

The Pelicans are currently eighth in the Western Conference but there's still two-thirds of the NBA season left to go, so things are bound to change. Hopefully, after what was a up-and-down start to the season, we'll be seeing a lot more victories like last night's and playoff basketball will return to New Orleans for the first time since 2011.

So jump on the bandwagon now before it gets too full and tickets are still dirt cheap.

Watch Hannibal Buress' hilarious report from the Pelicans game against the Cavaliers

Hannibal Buress. - CONSTANCE KOSTREVSKI

  • Hannibal Buress.

Comedian and New Orleans aficionado Hannibal Buress was given a press pass from ESPN to cover the New Orleans Pelicans game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and filed the video report below. While not as hilarious as the bit Buress performed on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, it's still pretty entertaining.

Among the highlights, Buress' fascination with saying "Smoothie King Center" and his simple, yet insightful contextualization of losing a basketball game ("life is pretty chill otherwise"). Buress made similar observations during his stand up sets around town (including two shows at the Civic Theater and another two sets opening for Dave Chappelle) while filming in New Orleans.

Video: Small and large beers at Pelicans games are pretty much the same

New Orleans Pelicans fans, beware: You're probably better off not paying the extra $3.50 you pay for a "large" beer at home games.

As the pictures above and video below show, the difference between a "small" beer and a "large" beer is just a few ounces, if not less. The small costs $6, the large costs $9.50. With a 50+ percent price difference, you'd expect the larger beer to be at least 50 percent bigger, right?

This came to my attention when I saw this post by Facebook user Brian Gust. Posted Dec. 2, the video has gone viral, generating over 113,000 views. The video shows Gust pouring the beer from a "large" cup into a "regular" cup. The difference is marginal.

Trying to give the Pelicans the benefit of the doubt, I thought that maybe Gust's "large" beer wasn't filled all the way and that the foam from transferring the beer was making the small cup look fuller than it really was. But this wasn't the case. I went to the Pelicans game against the Utah Jazz and conducted my own experiment:

Y@ Speak: it's beginning to look a lot like... something

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2014 at 1:15 PM

New Orleans Saints bloodbaths and indictments, Millennium Falcons lighting up the trees, roosters living at the grocery store, the smell of Curren$y baking on our timelines... all the makings of the holiday season are in this week's Y@ Speak. Also: Dave Chappelle, Wendell Pierce, LeBron James and more.

Y@ Speak: throwing punches

Posted By on Mon, Dec 8, 2014 at 12:31 PM

Even the New Orleans Saints channeled a bit of rage (albeit during a ruthless loss) that New Orleans had stored up all week, from protest marches to elections and everything in between. Also this week: New Orleans remembers Jonah Bascle, and Lil Wayne is now a figurative prisoner.

This ugly New Orleans Pelicans Christmas sweater is an abomination and everyone wants one

Posted By on Tue, Dec 2, 2014 at 10:16 AM

You know a trend has jumped the shark when a major North American sports league exploits it for money. The latest example: the National Basketball Association (NBA) is cashing in on the "ugly holiday sweater" trend — which an ABC News article traced back to 2001 — by releasing "ugly sweaters" for 14 lucky(?) teams.

Here you can see the New Orleans Pelicans version, which (and I'm being generous here) is an abomination to all sense of taste, style and class. Also, it's almost completely sold out at $64.95.

That's right: Head over to the NBA's online store and you'll see that the sweater is only available in XXL, with all other sizes unavailable for purchase. This is somewhat surprising considering the Saints have not one, not two, but three sweaters that are even uglier and in greater availability.

Regardless of your stance on the Pelicans and Saints sweaters (and ugly sweaters in general), just be thankful we only have to endure them one month out of the year.

In other news, the forecast this week calls for daytime temperatures in the low 70s because: New Orleans — so don't plan to wear your new ugly sweater just yet.

Before we dive into turkey cavities and bathtubs of gravy, let us explore a week of power outages, cold weather (it is 10 million degrees and armpit humid as I write this), a surprise Foo Fighters gig, Anthony Davis' superpowers, juggalos, Hannibal Buress, beignets-as-peacemakers, secret Hubig's pies, po-boy overload, and a high-profile wedding that nearly shuttered a beloved local theater venue.

This picture of Will Ferrell and Pelicans GM Dell Demps has us asking so many questions

Posted By on Thu, Nov 20, 2014 at 10:34 AM

Looks like Dell acquired another great player...gonna need to change that number though. #jackiemoon

A photo posted by New Orleans Pelicans (@pelicansnba) on

The Pelicans are in the middle of a four-game road trip in which Anthony Davis has been a complete monster. But today the team's social media arm posted this picture of General Manager Dell Demps posing actor/comedian Will Ferrell wearing a full Pelicans' uniform complete with Davis' No. 23. The picture was posted to Instagram with the following caption:

Looks like Dell acquired another great player...gonna need to change that number though #jackiemoon
The #jackiemoon refers to Ferrell's 2008 move Semi-Pro in which he plays a '70s basketball team owner Jackie Moon. Aside from that, we are given very little context as to why Ferrell was in the Blender taking pictures with Demps.
