Gambit TV: 3-Day Weekend A&E picks — and Derek Kevra's weekend forecast (with special guest Pippa the Piano-Playing Chicken)

Posted By on Thu, Nov 21, 2013 at 11:32 AM

Weekend weather and weekend entertainment picks! First, the Gambit-cast with our friend Derek Kevra. Note that the numbers on the 7-Day go from 78 degrees to 37 degrees:

"Like Odell Beckham Jr. this weekend's weather is all over the place! On Friday we'll have highs near 80 with mostly cloudy skies and a decent chance for scattered showers. That chance goes up on Saturday, as a cold front passes through, making for a wet Saturday. Temperatures will then plummet behind the front, as the wind picks up. Sunday will be partly cloudy, dry, but very cold thanks to a strong north wind. And speaking of Odell, plan on showers in Baton Rouge."

Under the jump: Noah Bonaparte Pais and Eric Paulsen with some stuff to do this weekend, including the Xavier University Scholarship Benefit Concert with Bill Cosby, the Commodores and En Vogue; Lost Bayou Ramblers at Siberia; Blue is the Warmest Color; the New Orleans Fringe Festival; and more ... plus a bonus video of Pippa the piano-playing chicken.

Gambit TV: 3-Day Weekend A&E picks — and Derek Kevra's weekend forecast

Posted By on Thu, Nov 7, 2013 at 12:03 PM

Here comes the weekend, and WWL-TV's Derek Kevra has your Gambit-cast, while Noah Bonaparte Pais takes care of the entertainment picks. First, Derek, who is excited about some gators:

"Folks that are planning to head out to the Holy Name of Jesus Gator Fest this weekend are in store for some nice weather! Friday evening will be cool and breezy, with temps falling into the 50s. Make sure to grab a jacket. Saturday and Sunday look very pleasant with afternoon highs in the 70s and a small chance for showers on Sunday. Get out and enjoy yourself some Gator Fest!"

If you're not quite so much into gators as Derek is, let Noah steer you toward other pursuits, including Hair at Le Petit Theatre, Laura Marling at the Civic Theater, Lebowski Fest at the Howlin' Wolf and lots more:

Gambit TV: 3-Day Weekend A&E picks — and Derek Kevra's spooooky Halloween forecast

Posted By on Thu, Oct 31, 2013 at 11:55 AM

It's Halloween, and we have Rob Ryan, Flo from Progressive Insurance, Strawberry Shortcake, a 610 Stomper, various witches, Shaun of the Dead and Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell wandering around our office. But rain is in the forecast, so we got the twerk-or-treat 411 from WWL-TV meteorologist Derek Kevra:

"In general, the weekend looks like a wonderful fall showcase, but there are a few details to point out. Some showers are still possible early Friday afternoon, but the rest of the weekend will be dry. Voodoo goers should plan on a soggy ground for Friday and outside of the hours 11AM-4PM, some cooler temps, especially at night. If you're planning on being there overnight, bring a jacket. Don't say I didn't warn ya!."

This weekend's big news, of course, is the Voodoo Music Experience (check our complete preview, schedule and maps here), but there's also Chelsea Light Moving at One Eyed Jacks, 12 Years a Slave (our review; Ken Korman says it may be the best movie of 2013), The Mountaintop at Anthony Bean Community Theater (our preview); and lots more. Noah Bonaparte Pais explains it all to Eric Paulsen:

Gambit TV: 3-Day Weekend A&E picks — and Derek Kevra's weekend forecast

Posted By on Thu, Oct 17, 2013 at 4:01 PM

The good news: Fall may actually be here — nothing above 80 in the forecast. The bad news: A bit of rain this weekend. WWL-TV's Derek Kevra has the Gambit-cast:

"The jam packed festival month continues, with a headliner this weekend of The 2013 Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival. A cool front will drop temperatures finally into the 70s... which, well, about time! Rain chances look lower on Friday and Sunday, but the first half of Saturday has a better threat for showers. Overall though we will have clouds with the occasional break of sunshine. I'm just glad we will get a break from the heat for the first real time this year!"

Meanwhile, Noah Bonaparte Pais was on the WWL-TV Eyewitness Morning News to break down this weekend's entertainment picks with Eric Paulsen. On the menu: Vox and the Hound at One Eyed Jacks; Moon Honey also at One Eyed Jacks; Bayou Maharajah closing the New Orleans Film Festival at the Civic Theater; Possum Kingdom by Cripple Creek Theater Company; the Anba Dlo Festival at New Orleans Healing Center; and lots more.

Weekend weather: Tropical Storm Karen update from WWL-TV's Derek Kevra

Posted By on Thu, Oct 3, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Karen

There's a lot going on this weekend — from the Gretna Heritage Festival to the Ponderosa Stomp — but a tropical storm system in the Gulf is making things miiiighty uncertain.

We asked WWL-TV's Derek Kevra what he saw in the forecast for Tropical Storm Karen:

It is said that the majority of Louisiana festivals take place in October, because the weather is usually quite perfect. Heck, this weekend is Gretna Fest, my friend Andrew's favorite festival of the year!

Which is why I'm troubled to announce that the forecast for this weekend includes rain and a possible tropical system. Where the tropical system goes will obviously play a large role in the forecast, but it's safe to say right now that Saturday looks fairly wet, and Friday will see some spotty rain too. A cold front Sunday will help clear things out, with spotty morning showers and cooler air Sunday night.

Sorry, Andrew.

Be like Derek's good friend Andrew. Keep up with the weekend predictions at the WWL-TV Weather Center, or download the station's mobile apps for iPhone and Android.

Gambit TV: 3-Day Weekend A&E picks — and Derek Kevra's weekend forecast

Posted By on Thu, Sep 26, 2013 at 5:11 PM

Busy weekend ahead. What's the Gambit-cast, Derek Kevra?

"I am confident in telling you that this weekend: It never rains in Tiger Stadium. Of course, there isn't a football game there. But either way... It will not rain in Tiger Stadium! This weekend actually looks really nice, with high temperatures in the upper 80s and a small chance for showers. In fact, Sunday even looks a little less humid. Could Fall weather really be close to arriving?"

7dayweb-640x360.jpg

And big, big things coming up this weekend: Jerry Seinfeld at the reopening of the Saenger Theater, Brain Candy at the Prytania Theatre (yay, Kids in the Hall), New Orleans on Tap at New Orleans City Park and lots more. Noah Bonaparte Pais and Eric Paulsen explain it all for you:
