Brand new chef Merlin Chauvin has completely revamped the menu at this Metairie taste factory. Chef John Folse’s restaurant, located on a plantation dating back to 1859, has received so many accolades it’s impossible not to run into his name someplace around New Orleans. LAGER’S INTERNATIONAL ALE HOUSE

While keeping its huge beer list (75 types on tap, 120 in a bottle), Lager’s recently revised its menu to add some substantial entrees to complement the suds. Try the grilled black pepper tuna, a ribeye steak or the baby back ribs with garlic mash potatoes and black bean corn salsa for something new. Old faithfuls are still around, such as the North American sandwich with smoked turkey, provolone cheese and raspberry dressing on focaccia bread. No reservations. Landry’s is celebrating its 20th year in business. That’s given them a lot of time to work out the kinks in a long list of sandwiches served on French bread or a bun.
