YE OLDE COLLEGE INN
3016 S. Carrollton Ave. 866-3683
Real home cooking brings the same loyal customers back to Ye Olde College Inn day after day. They chat over vegetable side dishes prepared fresh every day, like candied yams, baked zucchini, baked eggplant and green peas. Black-eyed peas and baked macaroni with cheese also give ye olde college try alongside omelettes, sandwiches, salads and daily specials. Reservations accepted. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $

YOSHI SUSHI
3205 Edenborn Ave., Metairie 885-7363
Many of the traditional Japanese dishes available at Yoshi recently made it onto the English menu, translated and ready for Western tasters. While these dishes still are much more popular with their Japanese clientele, there’s always the sushi, the tempura, the smoked baby eel and the baked mussels. The staff would be happy to serve you anything else you’re brave enough to try. No reservations. Lunch weekdays, dinner Monday through Saturday. $$

ZACHARY’S
8400 Oak St. 865-1559
The quaint, rambling Creole cottage that is Zachary’s houses one of Uptown’s best-kept secrets. Zachary’s, "the gem of the Riverbend," serves upscale versions of soul food and Creole classics, sometimes with a modern twist (as in the Caesar salad with homemade croutons topped with grilled yellowfin tuna). If innovation unnerves you, seek comfort in a classic like the fried half chicken, served with French fries and oyster dressing. Reservations accepted. Lunch daily, dinner Tuesday through Saturday. $$

ZEA ROTISSERIE & BREWERY
4450 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie 780-9090
Zea Rotisserie & Brewery holds the distinction of being Jefferson Parish’s first brewpub, and its convenient location in the Clearview Shopping Center is paying handsome dividends. The brewpub’s is an international menu with a little something Americana for everyone. Pair a beer with the award-winning soy and chile-glazed Thai ribs. Then there are the rotisserie meats, the rice bowls, pastas, paninis, burgers and the salads. No reservations. Lunch, dinner and late-night daily. Credit cards. $$
