FALL RESTAURANT GUIDE BY NEIGHBORHOOD
10.30.01

DOOKY CHASE
2301 Orleans Ave. 821-0600
From her beginnings in a sandwich shop, celebrity Chef Leah Chase has successfully merged Creole cuisine and fine dining in a fashion that befits her reputation. Digest some soul in the recommended picks: gumbo, shrimp Clemenceau, fried chicken, paneed veal and crawfish etouffee. Come for friendly, formal service at dinner or a more laid back lunch. Reservations accepted. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $$

LE PETIT DEGARGE
1625 Gov. Nicholls St. 569-8868
This Treme walk-up and takeout is difficult to access but worth the effort. The Haitian chef serves up plenty of pot cooking from his homeland, as well as po-boys and other New Orleans specialties. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch him working on tender, mildly sour pork served with beans, rice and boiled plantain. No reservations. Lunch and dinner until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Cash only. $
