Spring Fashion

Who What When Wear

By Kandace Power Graves

FLIRTING -- Paisleys and florals in soft, spring colors make this elastic waist skirt by tothemax!, $48, perfect for the office or for attracting attention after hours. It comes with a matching three-quarter sleeve button-front blouse, $48; or make it more casual and flirty with a purple tank top by Esprit, $16; all from Ah-Ha (3119 Magazine St., 269-2442).

ALL AROUND THE TOWN -- From the zoo to shopping on Magazine Street to an evening of music at Tip's or House of Blues, this smart upscale-casual look will take you there. Aqua knit tank top with sequin-and-bead flower accent, $29; and bright orange dollhouse skirt, $36; all from Funky Monkey (3127 Magazine St., 899-5587).

FISHING (FOR COMPLIMENTS) -- You'll reach your limit of compliments quickly when you grace the docks -- or any other place -- suited in a silky halter top in an alluring orange and purple geometric print, $99; a matching skirt by Forwear, $118; and a wide, golden mesh bracelet intertwined with orange and amber crystal beads, $80; all from La Doux (207 W. Harrison Ave., 482-1535).

OFF TO THE RACES -- Whether you're watching horses or racing off to some other diversion, you'll always be fashionably appropriate (and comfortable) in a classically designed v-neck brown knit fitted blouse, $58, and light blue and brown batik pants, $145, both by Equestrian Design. Add a touch of elegance with a necklace of earth-tone pearls and a copper drop by jewelry artist B.L. Hebert, $125, and matching copper earrings, $30. All from La Doux (207 W. Harrison Ave., 482-1535).(On the cover)

JAZZ FESTIN' -- (On the cover) You won't need to carry a flag to find your friends at the Fair Grounds; they'll find you when you dress for the gaiety in a retro halter top crocheted in brightly colored squares, $30; coupled with vintage high-waisted, bellbottom jeans, $23. Dress it up even more with some playful sunglasses with dual-colored lenses, $10; and silver oversized hoop earrings, $12; all from Funky Monkey (3127 Magazine St., 899-5587).

WALKING THROUGH TIME --

Bold black swirls on a white mini dress are reminiscent of the '60s, but the design of this little go-anywhere dress, $60, is strictly '01, especially when dressed up with a romantic white ribbon necklace with crystals, $14; all from Gae-tana's

(7732 Maple St., 865-9625).
