Dinner Invasion
On Saturday, Aug. 25, Antoine's (713 St. Louis St., 581-4422) will recreate a dinner ordered in 1941 by Gen. George S. Patton Jr. According to Col. Richard J. Stillman's book, General Patton's Timeless Leadership Principles: Your Practical Guide For a Successful Career and Life, the meal went like this: oysters Rockefeller, Dinde Rochambeau (roasted turkey), pomme de terres soufflees (puffed potatoes), baked Alaska and, finally, a demi-tasse of black coffee. The evening's keynote speaker, Stillman will discuss how Patton's leadership principles contributed to his own success as a soldier, professor, author and entrepreneur. Archbishop Philip M. Hannan, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, will offer the invocation. Among other freebies, the $100 evening includes a glass of wine, which surely strays from the fearless leader's sobering history. Call 525-9017 or 539-9560.
Decade of Good Taste
WYES is into its 10th year of A Season of Good Tastes -- dinners hosted by area restaurants to benefit the public television station. From now until Dec. 12, restaurants such as Dante's Kitchen (736 Dante St., 861-3634), Etoile's (407 N. Columbia St., Covington, 892-4578) and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (711 N. Broad St., 486-0810; 3633 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 888-3600) will prepare five-course meals with wines, New Orleans Rums and CC's Coffee. Tickets are $65, all-inclusive.
