John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale in Serendipity
ALL OVER THE GUY (R) -- B-

AMERICAN PIE 2 (R) -- C

Jim, Stifler, Finch and the gang are back after a year of college and still horny as hell -- and essentially for the same people. That flimsy set-up and a string of barely funny sight gags keep this weak sequel from going anywhere. (Simmons) Palace 16, Palace 20

AN AMERICAN RHAPSODY (PG-13) -- NOT RATED

Eva Gardos' debut as both writer and director tells her story about growing up in both Hungary and the United States in the early years of the Cold War, and her return to her homeland to reclaim her identity. Stars Scarlett Johanssen (Ghost World), Tony Goldwyn and Nastassja Kinski. Canal Place

ANTARCTICA (NR) -- NOT RATED

This IMAX documentary takes viewers to the previously unseen reaches of the Chaos Glacier, with its icy blue waters and crystalline cave, as part of a look at the world's southernmost continent. Entergy IMAX

APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX (R) -- A+

Finally, a director's cut worth watching. One of the greatest "war movies" (or statements about war) ever made gets another treatment by director Francis Ford Coppola, whose added footage provides more context. (Simmons) Palace 20

BEING THERE (PG) -- A

Brilliantly conceived ironic satire of American culture by Hal Ashby features Peter Sellers as a sheltered gardener who unwittingly finds himself in the White House. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Loyola's Bobet Hall room 214

CYBERWORLD (NR) -- NOT RATED

Billed as the first-ever animated IMAX film, Cyberworld features the voice of Jenna Elfman and characters from The Simpsons and the film Antz. Entergy IMAX

THE DEEP END (R) -- B-

What do you do with a thriller that doesn't thrill? This beautifully shot drama about a housewife (Tilda Swinton) desperately trying to protect her son from a murder rap and her family from blackmail deserves credit for a realistic, mature and unconventional approach to the noir thriller genre. (Simmons) Canal Place, Palace 20

DER MUEDE TOD (NR) -- NOT RATED

GALAPAGOS (NR) -- A-

Smithsonian Institution marine biologist Carole Baldwin leads an expedition of the mysterious islands explored by Charles Darwin more than 160 years ago. An amazing use of IMAX 3D technology, the film is a feast for the eyes, if not the intellect. (Carlson) Entergy IMAX

THE GLASS HOUSE (PG-13) -- D

Daniel Sackheim's limp thriller is an amalgam of the lamest of Hollywood cliches. Two orphaned children are taken in by murderous guardians who want their $4 million inheritance. (Barton) Palace 16, Palace 20

JEEPERS CREEPERS (R) -- B+

Just when you thought it was safe to watch slasher flicks in the postmodern aftermath of such parodies as the Scream and Scary Movie franchises, this homage to the '70s heyday of the genre (particularly The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) comes along. (Simmons) Palace 16, Palace 20

JOY RIDE (R) -- B

Brothers Steve Zahn (Happy, Texas) and Paul Walker find themselves in a road duel after playing a practical joke on a faceless, psycho truck driver in this thriller from John Dahl (The Last Seduction, Rounders). THE VERTICAL RAY OF THE SUN (PG-13) -- B+

Tran Anh Hung's portrait of three contemporary Hanoi sisters lulls you rather than propels you. Its narrative is slow and sometimes unconvincing. But the actors and the urban landscapes are photographed with ineffable beauty. You remember it in pieces rather than as a whole, but always with a smile of pleasure. (Barton) (Reviewed in this issue.) Canal Place

WITNESS (R) -- B+
