George Rodrigue,
the artist whose Blue Dog images have become famous across the world, rendered a limited-edition painting the evening of Sept. 11 and is donating all its proceeds to the American Red Cross. The print, "God Bless America," depicts the famed canine -- this time painted in white with red eyes -- with the American flag. One thousand images were sold within two weeks at $500 apiece, for a total donation of $500,000.

Tulane University's Shakespeare Festival
is bringing the Bard to the public with its educational outreach program, "Shakespeare on the Road." The 40-minute performance, "Shakespeare and the Language that Shaped a World," contains excerpts from more than a dozen of Shakespeare's best-known plays. "Shakespeare on the Road" has been booking performances at schools, libraries and community centers.

Annabelle Bernard
the leading soprano for the Berlin Opera for decades, is donating her personal papers and memorabilia to the Amistad Research Center. Bernard, who now teaches voice at Xavier, is giving the center her personal correspondence, contracts, programs, award certificates and photographs.

Gov. Mike Foster
has appointed fewer women for top policy-making positions than any other state governor, acording to a new survey by the New York-based Center for Women in Government. Women hold only four of 23 of the state's top appointments by the governor -- accounting for Louisiana's last-place ranking in the survey.
