Gallo of Sonoma
Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
$13
Drinking this dark, murky wine is like basking on a freshly laid, sun-warmed patch of blacktop, snacking alternately on plump red grapes and raisins. Sometimes cherry-sweet, sometimes raspier than tar, it tastes older than its vintage date and certainly more sophisticated than the Gallo name might imply. Cork it early and let it breathe for steak au poivre, wild mushroom risotto and hard, salty cheeses like Parmesan or aged Gouda. Found at Dorignac's, Langenstein's, Cellars of River Ridge, and most Rite Aid, Sav-A-Center and Winn Dixie locations, as well as many other area wine purveyors. -- Roahen
