Hot and Sweet
As many times as I've walked up to Tee Eva's (4430 Magazine St., 899-8350) window for a sweet potato pie or a praline, until this week I was blind to the fact that Tee Eva also serves hot food. She sells at least two entrees for $6 daily, which might include smothered pork chops, baked chicken, catfish fillets, meatloaf or stuffed cabbage rolls. And you'll find sausage jambalaya, red beans with rice and seafood gumbo every day for $4 a pint. "I'm my own food critic," says Tee Eva. "I'm not easy to feed, so I know it's good if I like it." Her takeout-only restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily; hot food is available until it runs out. Tee Eva also offers catering and "lots of smiles."

Cookie-Cutter House
Redfish Grill
(115 Bourbon St., 598-1200) Chef Gregg Collier is dreaming up this year's gingerbread house-building workshops. Slated for the first two Sundays in December, the two-hour workshops cost $25, which includes a decorated chef's hat, a gingerbread house, a Redfish Grill T-shirt, soda and likely more candy than your kid ate at Halloween. The jolly guy in the red hat will make a surprise appearance with gifts. An adult must accompany children under 12 years. Call to reserve a spot.

Herbal Essence
If you're thinking about gathering 'round the teapot with friends this season, keep in mind that the Windsor Court Hotel (300 Gravier St., 523-6000) is offering a Victorian holiday tea through Jan. 6. The Fairmont New Orleans (123 Baronne St., 529-7111) is putting on traditional and champagne tea services on weekends until Christmas, as well as Teddy Bear Teas for children. Sweets, cider, hot chocolate, teddy bears, stories and a parade with Santa all appear at the kiddie tea. Other spots to call about holiday tea times are the Ritz-Carlton (921 Canal St., 524-1331) and Secret Garden Tea Room (3626 Magazine St., 895-2913).

Market Watch
Sweet potatoes, turnips, kumquats and pecans are making their seasonal appearances at the Crescent City Farmers Markets. The upcoming schedule of events includes a cooking demonstration by Cafe Marigny's (1913 Royal St., 945-4472) new chef, Steve Zucker, on Saturday, Dec. 1. The Tuesday market is at 200 Broadway St. and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. The Thursday market is at 3700 Orleans Ave. and runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Call 861-5898 or visit www.loyola.edu/ccfm. -- Roahen
