Gambit WeeklyWelcomes Brenda Maitland
With this issue, Gambit Weekly is pleased to welcome Brenda Maitland as a contributing writer. Maitland is a preeminent wine critic and a founder of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience. She served as president of the American Wine Society in New Orleans, has contributed to numerous local and national publications as a freelance food and wine writer, and is noted as a "gourmet journalist par excellence" by no less an authority than Steven Spurrier in a recent issue of Decanter magazine. Among Maitland's contributions to Gambit Weekly will be the regular "Wine of the Week" column.
CORRECTION: In last week's story about Mayor-elect Ray Nagin's efforts to attract new managers with current city salaries ("When You Wish Upon a Star," March 19), we incorrectly reported that Kristina Ford is director of the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority, calling it an "unclassified job" she received from Mayor Marc Morial at an annual salary of $120,000. In fact, Ford is director of the New Orleans Building Corp., which oversees the city's real estate holdings. She was not appointed by the mayor, but received a professional services contract from the agency, which does not require a public bid. Ford serves at the pleasure of the seven-member board of directors, which is headed by Morial. The salary figure is correct. Gambit Weekly regrets the errors.
