1998 Estancia Meritage
Alexander Valley, California
$23-$26 This Bordeaux blend virtually sings with vivid fruit character balanced with a bold intensity and firm yet diffused tannins. Inviting red and black fruit aromas blend with a touch of vanilla from the wine's American oak aging to deliver a well-structured, elegant wine with hints of spice, layers of fruit and a medium-long finish. From a region known for its world-class reds, the wine is a blend of 80 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 17 percent Merlot, 2 percent Petit Verdot and 1 percent Malbec. Delicious with rich cheeses, duck, roast pork and dishes with heavy sauces. Available at Martin's Wine Cellar, Dorignac's, The Wine Seller, Cellars of River Ridge, Rouse's and Sav-A-Center.
