2000 Cheviot Bridge
Yea Valley, Australia
$16-$19 Four remarkable grape growers in Victoria's high country joined forces to create the Cheviot Bridge label. While most of their fruit is sold to premium producers, a select part of each vineyard is kept to develop their own special wines. The Shiraz is a stunning example of a wine that, "although everyone in Australia makes one," is different, and delicious. Although a New World grape, this Shiraz has Old World character. A hint of spice, some cedar and lots of fruit aromas greet you from the glass, followed by marvelous, mellow, well-structured notes on the palate. Rated 87 by Wine Spectator. Good with game, lamb and other meats. Found at the Wine Seller, Dorignac's and Louisiana Star on the Northshore. -- Brenda Maitland
