2000 Simi Chardonnay
Sonoma County California

$12-$15
A blend of 100 percent Chardonnay fruit from Sonoma's Carneros and Russian River American Viticultural Areas, this is a well-structured wine with attractive pale lemon, green apple, vanilla, spice and almond aromas. Good acidity adds a balance to the concentrated fruit flavors and toasty quality the 100-percent French oak aging (of which 16 percent is new oak) lends to the wine. Malolactic fermentation provides a hint of butter, and a silky glycerin good mouth feel on the lingering finish. The wine's crispness and acid balance makes it a good aperitif and a fine accompaniment to trout Meuniere, dishes that call for beurre blanc sauce, and cream soups. Found at Dorignac's, Martin Wine Cellar, Cellars of River Ridge, The Wine Seller, Rouse's, Sav-A-Center and Winn-Dixie. -- Brenda Maitland
