1999 Geyser Peak Sonoma County
Cabernet Sauvignon
$17-$20 A Gold Medal Winner in the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience's recent Best of Show event, cabernet sauvignon grapes for this wine were selected predominantly from Sonoma's top-rated Alexander Valley vineyards. Shiraz and Petite Verdot were added to provide color and structure to the wine, which offers up black cherry, cassis, cedar and vanillin oak aromas on the nose, followed by blackberry, currants and cassis flavors on the palate. A well-rounded wine with firm tannins, it drinks well now but will improve with several years of bottle-aging. Available at Sav-A-Center, Winn-Dixie Marketplace and Dorignac's and on the wine lists at Galatoire's, Louis XVI, Sake Cafe II, Impastato's, Ruth's Chris (Metairie). -- Brenda Maitland
