2000 Kenwood Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley, California
$15-$18
Named Best of Show among pinot noirs in the recent New Orleans Wine & Food Experience competition, this wine explodes with candied red cherry fruit in the nose and on the palate. Vivid red fruit flavors in the mouth characteristic of Russian River include plummy nuances and hints of the 11 months of French oak barrel-aging. With nearly 14 percent alcohol, the wine finishes a little on the hot side. A very drinkable, great red wine for summer, this medium-bodied pinot marries well with a wide range of foods including grilled tuna, pork, chicken and salmon and is marvelous with cheeses. Available at Whole Foods Market, Dorignac's, most Winn-Dixies, Habanos of Slidell, Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville, and Northshore Wine Merchants. -- Brenda Maitland
