Flying to Mid-City
Good news for Mid-City: The owners of Juan's Flying Burrito are opening a second location in late July at the corner of Carrollton Avenue and Canal Street. The space will be slightly smaller than the flagship restaurant at 2018 Magazine St. (569-0000), but it will nonetheless seat around 75 people and have off-street parking. General Manager David Greengold says that the menu will be basically the same as the one offered Uptown, which means giant burritos, tacos and salads. For now, the plan is to open for lunches and dinners, but ultimately neighborhood response will decide the hours of operation.

Franco-file
The kitchen at Midi South of France (Le Meridien Hotel, 614 Canal St., 527-6712) is entertaining the talents of a new executive chef, Philippe Pinon. While he has made the rounds at highly regarded restaurants in Europe and the United States, Pinon most recently was executive sous-chef at the Windsor Court Hotel (300 Gravier St., 522-1992). He replaces Chef Emmanuel Bernard, who has returned to France.

Summer at Galatoire's
Galatoire's (209 Bourbon St., 525-2021) continues its summer tradition of monthly five-course wine dinners on Tuesday, July 9, with a dinner showcasing wines from Simi and Mount Veeder wineries. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Galatoire's always bring three-course business lunch specials, and this summer martini prices are slashed in half during weekday lunches.

More Lunch on Frenchmen
Marigny Brasserie (640 Frenchmen St., 945-4472) is now serving lunch Monday through Friday. Chef Steve Zucker's midday dishes include wild mushroom-crusted salmon and the already-renowned spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts.

Market Watch
On Saturdays during July, the Crescent City Farmers Market is featuring the International Language of Food. Each week, a chef will conduct a cooking demonstration in his or her first language. Sammy Tewelde from Red Sea Restaurant (7838 Earhart Blvd., 861-9639) kicks off the program this Saturday with food and talk from his homeland, Eritrea. Demonstrations by French Chef Rene Bajeux of Rene Bistrot (817 Common St., 412-2580), Panamanian Chef Adolfo Garcia of RioMar (800 S. Peters St., 525-FISH) and Vietnamese Chef Vy Banh of Pho Tau Bay (113-C Westbank Expwy., Gretna, 368-9846; 3112 N. Arnoult Road, Suite G, Metairie, 780-1063) will follow later in the month. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 861-5898 or visit www.loyola.edu/ccfm.
