The move is designed to make more patients aware of heart disease -- the leading killer in Louisiana.

The National D-Day Museum
pulled off a major coup in the museum world by logging a 6-percent increase in visitors during its second year of operation -- a period when new museums typically experience a drop in attendance. An independent Toronto firm, hired by the museum to analyze its performance, released the figures last week. The only other U.S. museum that can claim a second-year boost has been the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.

admitted he met privately with embattled Judge Ronald Bodenheimer in April to ask for leniency in the sentencing of his brother-in-law, Gary Mire Sr. Mire had been convicted in Bodenheimer's court of molesting two teenage girls. Coulon said he was unaware the meeting was improper under the state Code of Judicial Conduct, which prohibits judges from engaging in conversations that could influence their decisions on the bench.

St. John the Baptist's animal shelter
may have put a LaPlace couple's dog to sleep before the parish-mandated five-day waiting period between pickup and euthanization. The couple said their black Lab had escaped their yard while they were away, and parish officials said the animal had been captured on a Saturday. When the couple tried to get the dog the next day the shelter was open, the following Tuesday, the dog could not be found. Last week, the shelter was closed for the holidays, and officials could not be reached for comment.
