Affordable Do-Over
You probably didn't make it to dinner at the James Beard House when Victor's (The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans, 921 Canal St, 524-1331) Chef Frank Brunacci presented guests with a seven-course meal there in August. Figuring as much, he's preparing replicas of that dinner for $60 (half of what it cost to eat at the Beard House) throughout September. The meal includes Alaskan king crab salad with marinated canteloupe and vanilla oil, a cheese course and chocolate fondant with mint sorbet as a pre-dessert. Victor's still serves seven-course degustation menus and 10-course proprietary dinners; as of recently, you can also order from a nightly menu offering two to six courses starting at $35.

Endless Summer
Just when most restaurants are cutting off their summer dining deals, Smith & Wollensky (1009 Poydras St., 561-0770) is offering three-course dinners for $33.33 through the end of the month.

Crabby Mood
It's Louisiana blue crab week at Mr. B's (201 Royal St., 523-2078), where Chef Michelle McRaney is cooking dishes such as crabmeat risotto with asparagus, buster crabs with spinach, tasso and Crystal beurre blanc, and crabmeat fondue for two. Of course, that's only if you can keep away from the barbecue shrimp, which puts Worcestershire sauce in the running for the world's greatest invention.

Chow Down
The Single Gourmet's next chow-mingling event is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Bravo! (1711 St. Charles Ave.). Call 885-1831 for information and reservations.

Campaign for an Encore
Anyone who regrets not attending The Galatoire's Monologues should thank Le Chat Noir (715 St. Charles Ave., 581-5812) and mastermind Chris Rose for tentatively adding two more weekends of shows (Oct. 25-26 and Nov. 1-2). In a nutshell, Times-Picayune columnist Rose and friends read from letters that anguished customers penned and pounded out after Galatoire's management released longtime waiter Gilberto Eyzaguirre in April on the grounds of sexual harassment. The interpretive readings, and the audience's varied reactions to them, illuminate every angle of the ongoing drama. A Sept. 15 performance has already sold out.

Market Watch
This Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Music at the Market at the Crescent City Farmers Market features a solo accordion performance by Glenn Hartman of the Klezmer All-Stars. The Tuesday market is at 200 Broadway St. and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thursday market is at 3700 Orleans Ave. and runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 861-5898 or visit www.loyola.edu/ccfm.

This week's column powered by a stiff cafe brulot at Galatoire's.
