2000 Red Slate Riesling
Freiherr Heyl zu Herrnsheim, Germany

$24-$30

The Red Slate Riesling is a wine destined for German wine lovers as well as those that think they don't like German wines. The best expression of Germany's noblest grape is produced from gently rolling hillsides along the winding Rhine River. The counterbalance of sugar and acidity, combined with low alcohol, amplify the grape's varietal character in a lively, elegant offering. Fermented in giant wooden barrels and aged in cool 16th century stone cellars, the wine offers finely etched, complex fruit flavors, well-balanced acidity, and a long, dry finish. Wonderful with spicy crawfish dishes, seafood salads and Asian cuisine. Available at Cellars of River Ridge, Hebert Fine Food and Wine in Destrehan and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville.
