The return of the musical comedy documenting the cuisine culture of New Orleans, told from the viewpoint of waiters and waitresses. COLD READ. Le Chat Noir, 715 St. Charles Ave., 581-5812. "Theater for writers" with Barry Ivker reading his one-act play Correction, in which a collaboration between a gifted scientist and blues pianist could save the universe. Free admission, one drink minimum. 6 p.m. Wednesday.

DIAL M FOR MURDER. Slidell Little Theatre, 2024 Nellie Drive, Slidell, (985) 641-0324. Classic murder mystery by Frederick Knott best known for the Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same title, with a plot growing from themes of love, money and betrayal. Tickets $12 adults, $5 children. THE SONGS OF AL JOLSON. Le Chat Noir, 715 St. Charles Ave., 581-5812. Musician Harry Mayronne Jr. leads a tribute to Al Jolson, a pioneer of American music appearing in early films. Features vocalist Chris Wecklein, pianist Mayronne and the Harry Mayronne Trio with guest Karen Rose on violin. Tickets $16. Performances 8 p.m. Thursday and Sunday.
