Getting the Worm
Le Parvenu
(509 Williams Blvd., Kenner, 471-0534) now offers an early bird special to diners who chirp between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The $18.75 price tag includes a glass of wine and three courses. In September, Le Parvenu received a Distinguished Restaurant of North America (DiRoNA) award at a ceremony in Seattle, Wash. Chef-owner Dennis Hutley is also a collaborating partner at Lee Circle Restaurant (see Restaurant Review).

Generating Excitement

John Mariani
, food critic for Esquire magazine and frequent man-about-New Orleans, included Rene Bistrot (817 Common St., 412-2580) on his annual list of 20 restaurants and chefs who have created excitement in the food world. After leaving the Windsor Court Hotel's Grill Room (300 Gravier St., 522-1992), Chef Rene Bajeux opened the restaurant last fall in the casual style of a truly French bistro, serving dishes like cassoulet, salsify in brown butter and rabbit stew. Look for the article in November's Esquire.

Marching Orders

Due to a hurricane rescheduling, you've waited much too long for Stormin' the Sazerac, which will march on this Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel's Sazerac Bar (123 Baronne St., 529-4733). Admission is $7.50 for women and $19.49 for men (the price you pay for not letting us in the bar until that year). Drink Sazeracs, eat hors d'oeuvres and bring an item of women's or children's clothing to be donated to Crescent House.

Adjust Your Schedule
Dante's Kitchen
(736 Dante St.) also rescheduled the art opening of Francine Judd's iconography and David Rhoden's satirical work for this Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drop by then for a live-music happy hour. For more information on the opening, contact 3 Ring Circus Productions at 891-6169 or 522-5215.

Heavy Lifting

In the mood for some stein lifting? Call Foodies Kitchen (720 Veterans Blvd.,837-9695) about the Oktoberfest beer tasting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. For $22, you get samples of eight imported beers and Oktoberfest-inspired foods.

Fiesta de Octobre

Bucking the German trend this month, Martin Wine Cellar's Uptown location (3827 Baronne Street) is celebrating 20 Spanish wines and Spanish cuisine Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and must be bought in advance -- stop by the store or call 899-7411 or 896-7300.

Dressing Up

Play dress-up with your pooch for Marisol's (437 Esplanade Ave., 943-1912) canine Halloween costume party on the patio Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All four-legged party-goers receive free appetizers and drinks, and the winner gets a Marisol gift certificate. Bring your own knife to the next day's pumpkin-carving contest at 3 p.m. Call for details.
