1999 Louis Latour Meursault
France
$22-$24
Of all the multiple treasures yielded by Burgundy's Cote
d'Or, the tiny village of Meursault just 5 miles south of Beaune produces what
is undeniably one of the top wines in the world made from Chardonnay grapes. Planted
on southeasterly slopes of the Cotes de Beaune, grapes from Meursault consistently
produce compelling, easy-drinking wines. At Louis Latour, the wine ferments in
oak barrels, followed by 12 months of barrel aging before light filtration and
bottling. In the glass, the Latour releases aromas of pear and apple and offers
vibrant fruit flavors, hazelnuts and toasty oak notes in a firmly structured wine.
Pairs well with trout meuniere or amandine, lobster and other shellfish with rich
sauces. Available at Martin Wine Cellar and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville.
