Richard Stillman,
an Emeritus Professor of Management at the University of New Orleans, recently won six gold medals and one silver medal at the state Senior Olympics in Baton Rouge. Stillman, 85, competed in track and swimming events and brought his total medal count to 18 gold and two silver since he began competing in the senior games in 1996. Now an entrepreneur, Stillman also contributed to UNO's fitness center, where the track is named after him.

The LSU Health Sciences Center
recently won a $1.7 million federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control to fund three cancer programs at LSUHSC's Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center. The programs will enhance the Louisiana Tumor Registry, screen low-income women for breast and ovarian cancers, and develop a statewide comprehensive cancer plan.

Emily Maw ,
a third-year law student at Tulane University, won the 2002 Pro Bono Publico Award from PSLawNet, a network of law schools and legal service organizations around the world. Maw, a British native, was cited for her work on pre-trial capital cases, for establishing Tulane's Innocence Project New Orleans and the Street Law program, and for establishing an annual textbook drive for Louisiana prisons.

Roger Reese,
chief operating officer of the New Orleans school system, was asked to resign last week as state and federal agents investigate misconduct among administrators who obtained and approved contracts. Investigators say Reese failed to supervise individuals under his authority who have been accused of improprieties, and are checking into Reese's possible involvement. Reese had resigned under similar circumstances from his old position in Baltimore.
