2000 Riefle1 Classique Pinot Blanc
Alsace
$12-$13

The fertile land along the Rhine River between France and Germany may have waved the French flag since Louis XIV claimed Alsace in 1681, but the area's wine roots are decidedly Germanic. Reisling, Gewurztraminer, Tokay Muscat and Pinot Blanc fare well in the calcium-rich soil and dry microclimate. This classic, elegant Pinot Blanc offers floral aromas of dried honeysuckle with hints of peach, followed on the palate with tart fruit and a perfect acid-balanced finish. A good accompaniment to turkey leftovers, fruit-sauced roast pork, Asian cuisine, trout Meuniere and other seafood dishes. Available at Elio's Wine Warehouse, The Wine Seller, Northshore Wine Merchants in Covington, and the recently opened Cork & Bottle in the American Can Company Building on Orleans Avenue.
