Piper-Sonoma Brut Sparkling
California $13-$19
In the tradition of their great Champagne house, Piper-Heidsieck
founded Piper-Sonoma in northern Sonoma County in 1980. Made in the "methode champenoise"
style (the classic method that essentially means the wines are sold in the same
bottle in which the second fermentation occurred), the wine is a blend of 40 percent
Chardonnay, 30 percent Pinot Meunier, 20 percent Pinot Noir and 10 percent other
varietals. Blended with 15 to 20 percent reserve wines, the wine offers a pleasant
light yeasty aroma with a crisp apple and lime character. Enjoy with crab puffs,
shrimp rounds and oyster patties. Available at most Sav-A-Centers, Winn-Dixie
on Tchoupitoulas and St. Louis streets, Robert's on Robert E. Lee, Dorignac's,
both Martin Wine Cellars, The Wine Seller, Sidney's Wine Cellar on Decatur Street,
Prytania Liquor Store, Langenstein's Old Metairie, Cellars of River Ridge, Cost
Plus World Market Elmwood, and Acquistapace's Market and Hugh's Wine Cellar on
the Northshore.
