The Best and the Worst of the Week
 Dr.
Michael A. Sullivan
received the prestigious Gold Medal from the Radiological Society of North America,
the highest honor in medical radiology. The organization honored Sullivan, who
is the associate chairman of the Department of Radiology at Ochsner and a professor
at Tulane and Louisiana State University medical schools, for his work in research
and education.
Celebration in the Oaks
organizers credited good weather and interest in new displays for record-breaking
attendance at this year's holiday event, which ended Sunday, Jan. 5. Last week,
organizers estimated that nearly 200,000 people either drove or walked through
the annual lights display. Proceeds from the event fund about 10 percent of
City Park's annual budget.
 Orleans
Parish schoolteachers
set a bad example for students by failing to show up for school Thursday, Jan.
2, for a weather-related make-up day. Nearly one-third of teachers didn't show
up for classes; 72 percent showed up on Friday. A teachers union spokesperson
said part of the problem was the School Board's late rescheduling of the make-up
day.
Jim
Haslett
played the blame game after his team's late-season collapse last week. Following
the Dec. 29 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints' head coach
lashed out at fans who booed and called for back-up quarterback Jake Delhomme.
Haslett should have demonstrated more sensitivity to fans' vocal disappointment
over the three-game skid that knocked the Saints out of a nearly certain playoff
spot.
