Baker's Dozen

You may officially eat king cake as of this Monday, Jan. 6, otherwise known as Twelfth Night. To mark the beginning of the Carnival season and the countdown to Lent, Cobalt inside the Hotel Monaco (333 St. Charles Ave.) will host a Twelfth Night feast this Sunday, Jan. 12. The two dinner seatings, at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., are planned in conjunction with a fashion show in the hotel's Paris Ballroom, running from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and featuring Carnival-esque designs by Rosemary Kimble's Enrapturing Revisions. The fashion show is free to the public; there will be a cash bar during the show, followed by complimentary Champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Bachelor Pad

The Single Gourmet's next culinary outing is scheduled for this Saturday at Sal & Judy's (27491 Hwy. 190, Lacombe, 985-882-7167), a Creole-Italian institution on the Northshore. The cash bar opens at 6 p.m., and the dinner begins at 7 p.m. Call 885-1831 for reservations.

If -- for reasons of masochism or self-preservation -- your New Year's resolution involves dieting or generally becoming more healthful, look to the new juice purveyors at the Crescent City Farmers Market. They sell organic carrot juice, apple-lemon juice, apple-lemon-pepper juice and vegi cocktails by the 1/2 pint, the pint or the quart. Frozen wheatgrass shots are also available.
