2001 Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc
Sonoma, California $10-$17
The term "Fumé Blanc," developed by California wine
industry marketing mavens, is really just another name for Sauvignon Blanc, that
wonderfully food-friendly, clean and refreshing white wine. This well-balanced,
crisp Ferrari-Carano offers light herbal aromas with hints of wildflowers, followed
by lush fig and melon flavors. Unlike most Sauvignon Blancs that never see wood,
this wine was partially aged in oak which adds to the wine's richness. A delicious
accompaniment to vegetables such as asparagus, green beans and zucchini, salads,
shellfish, fin-fish, pastas, feta and goat cheeses. Available at most Sav-A-Centers,
Whole Foods Market on Magazine Street, all Albertson's (including the new store
on Tulane Avenue), Dorignac's, Langenstien's (in Metairie), Breaux Mart on Severn
Avenue, Prytania Liquor Store, The Wine Seller, Elio's Wine Warehouse, Martin
Wine Cellar Uptown and Metairie, Acquistapace's Covington Super Market and Hugh's
Wine Cellar in Covington.
