1999 Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva
Italy
$15-$22

Chianti Classico, one of the world's best-known wines, has been made by the Antinori family for centuries. For this vintage, the wine was aged in traditional Slovonian oak casks and French oak barrels for 14 months with another six months in the bottle. The wine shows balanced tannins, an interesting expression of the primarily Sangiovese fruit with tight aromas, big ripe cherry and berry fruit, a hint of sweetness and a long, dry finish. Great with eggplant parmigiana, fried calamari with marinara sauce, lasagna, pepperoni pizza, meatball and Italian sausage po-boys. Available at most Sav-a-Centers, Robert's Fresh Market on Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Matassa's Market in the French Quarter, Dorignac's, Elio's Wine Warehouse, Prytania Liquor Store, Langenstein's in Metairie, all Sam's Clubs, Cost Plus World Markets at Elmwood and Harvey, both Martin Wine Cellar locations, Cellars of River Ridge, and Wine Down in Mandeville.
