IRVIN MAYFIELD AND THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ ORCHESTRA. Tulane Univeristy, Dixon Hall, 865-5181. The Black Arts Festival, in a Black History Month celebration, presents a concert with trumpeter Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. Free admission. 7 p.m.

FRENCH MARKET'S "MASK MARKET." French Market's Dutch Alley, 524-3342. The Market celebrates its 21st anniversary with four days of mask-shopping (from local and national artists) and music by several bands including the Hot 8 Brass Band (Friday), Charmaine Neville (Saturday), Wild Magnolias (Sunday) and Marva Wright (Monday). Free admission. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Monday

THE MUSIC OF BLACK BROADWAY. New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, 916 N. Peters St., 589-4841. African-American music writer and WWOZ radio programmer Tom Morgan leads discussion on history of black musicals and musicians of Broadway from 1910-1930 and their connection to early jazz. Free admission. 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

MARDI GRAS MANSION. 3535 St. Charles Ave. Stuff magazine and Heineken/Amstel Light present a three-day party with giveaways, beads and celebrities, including MTV's Kari Wuhrer and Nicole Eggert of Baywatch. Party continues all day Saturday and Sunday. Tickets will be distributed on the street and through local radio stations. 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

APOCALYPSE BALL 2003. Tri-Lotus Playground, 621 N. Rendon St., near Bayou St. John, 482-9022. Mardi Gras event featuring parade with king, queen and court followed by performance by local funk band Saaraba. Benefits the Louisiana Himalaya Association, nonprofit working with Tibetan refugees in India. Costume required. Admission $5. 9:30 p.m. parade, 10 p.m. music.

CYCLECIDE BIKE RODEO TOUR. TwiRoPa, 1544 Tchoupitoulas St., 232-9503; The ARK, 511 Marigny St. Annual tour of San Francisco's Cyclecide with live music, bike stunts and tall-bike jousting, all devoted to the bicycle. TwiRoPa event features Cookie Mongoloid, a death metal Sesame Street cover band with go-go dancers; The ARK features Cyclecide house band Los Banos. ZULU POSTER SIGNING. La Belle Galerie, 309 Chartres St., 529-3080. Signing of the 2003 commemorative Zulu poster by artist Richard Thomas, with appearance by King Zulu Gary Thornton. Event features food, drinks and live entertainment. Free admission. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

LOCALFEST 2003. Corner of Nine Mile Point Road and 9800 Westbank Expwy., Westwego, 436-0224. Event featuring 20 local unsigned rock bands playing original music, plus late-night DJs. Ice chests welcome, on-site primitive camping. Admission $3 day, $5 weekend. 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, DJs spin after 2 a.m. both nights.

THE WILD MAGNOLIAS. Old U.S. Mint, 400 Esplanade Ave., 568-6968. The Wild Magnolias present an open-air music performance as part of "Music at the Mint" concert series. In case of inclement weather, concert will be held indoors and museum admission charged. Free admission. 2 p.m.

PARADE PARTY. Bultman Funeral Home, 3338 St. Charles Ave., 525-3377. Save Our Cemeteries celebrates the Endymion parade with a fundraiser to benefit SOC's preservation and restoration projects. Admission includes free food and king cake, an open bar, a fenced viewing area, restrooms and live music. Parking is limited and must be paid in advance. Party admission ranges from $10-$50, with children 6 and under free. 4 p.m.

ARMEINIUS BALL. St. Bernard Parish Auditorium, 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette, 949-4604. This year's theme, "Remembrances of Things Past," celebrates the krewe's 35-year history of throwing gay Mardi Gras balls. The event features costumes, live performances and local talents Blanche de Bris and Bianca Del Rio. Tickets to the show only are available through Second Skin Leather Co. (521 St. Philip St.) and Collectible Antiques (1232 Decatur St.) Tickets $15. 7:45 p.m.
