2000 Rosemount Estate Show Reserve Shiraz
$20-$22
McLaren Vale/Langhorne Creek, Australia
Although Shiraz is the same grape as Syrah from France's Rhone Valley, distinctive differences in terroir, viticulture and winemaking techniques illustrate that New World-Old World wines are miles apart in style as well as geography. For this Shiraz, old-vine grapes from South Australia's premier McLaren Vale region were blended with those of Langhorne Creek. The wine shows off its pedigree with spiced plum, chocolate, white pepper and vanillin-caramel aromas, the latter from its 24 month American oak aging. On the palate concentrated berry flavors, nuances of chocolate and spice are balanced by even tannins. Good with beef, roast duck, venison and cheese. Available at The Wine Seller, Dorignac's, Cellars of River Ridge, Habano's in Slidell, Acquistapace's Covington Market and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Covington.
