ZACHARY'S
8400 Oak St. 865-1559
Zachary's offers traditional Creole dishes a block away from the Maple Leaf.
Daily specials constantly change, but you can always count on favorites such
as seafood gumbo, fried chicken and bread pudding being available. The Sunday
brunch is the signature meal, with a buffet offering grillades and grits, an
omelette station, eggs, bacon and more. Reservations accepted. Lunch Monday through
Saturday, dinner Wednesday through Saturday, brunch Sunday. Credit cards. $$
ZEA ROTISSERIE & BREWERY
4450 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie 780-9090
Along with seasonal specials, the popular rotisserie fare and handcrafted
brews at Zea, there is plenty more to keep food lovers coming back. Seafood
lovers, rejoice in the Triple Trout, crusted with sesame, pesto and Zea's
special bronze seasoning. Management also recommends the Thai ribs, made
with sesame seeds and cilantro and slow cooked to retain moisture and flavor.
A new Zea Rotisserie Cafe should also be open inside the Esplanade Mall at
the end of March. No reservations. Lunch, dinner and late-night daily. Credit
cards. $$
ZEA ROTISSERIE CAFE
1655 Hickory Ave., Harahan 738-0799
1401 W. Esplanade Ave. (The Esplanade Mall), Kenner 468-7733
A brand-new location in the Esplanade Mall will give shoppers a chance to
get in on such treats as the "meat of the day" specials, like sliced pork with
rosemary and sliced beef with mushroom burgundy glaze. The rotisserie platter
of the day is a hearty meal, with either an 8-ounce serving of the meat of the
day with two side dishes, or a half chicken and 6-ounce of meat with side dishes.
No reservations. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $
ZEKE'S
1517 Metairie Road, Metairie 832-1133
Zeke's extensive menu of New Orleans delights is sure to have something
for everyone, but there seems to be something about the fried chicken club
-- a chicken breast, Swiss cheese and bacon. It may sound simple, but regulars
swear that perfection never gets old. Other favorites include boiled seasonal
seafood, corned beef and cabbage, seafood gumbo, and trout meuniere. For
dessert, check out the bread pudding with rum sauce, the pie of the day,
or the cheesecake. Reservations recommended. Lunch and dinner daily, breakfast
Sunday. Credit cards and checks.
