WEDNESDAYS AT THE SQUARE. Lafayette Square, across from Gallier Hall, 500 block of St. Charles Ave., 561-8927. Concert series runs every Wednesday through June 25 and features live music, refreshments and artist showcases. This week: Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen. Twenty-sixth annual fundraiser for community-rebuilding programs of Preservation Resource Center, with theme "Music, Mojo and Mojitos" featuring food, drinks, live music and silent auction. Fundraiser dinner for the Metropolitan Battered Women's Program features comfort food recipes contributed by local personalities and a humanitarian award to be presented to Sally Ann Roberts. MARDI GRAS SPECIAL OLYMPICS. Dillard University, 816-4711. A day of swimming, basketball and track events. Winners will be eligible to compete in the Special Olympics International World Games, held this summer in Belfast, Ireland. There will also be Mardi Gras competitions open to all. RISE TO THE CHALLENGE: END WORLD HUNGER. Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 3368 Esplanade Ave., 861-5834. Annual Walk for the Hungry program requests that participants collect pledges and/or bring non-perishable food items to the five-mile walk. There will also be a student/youth group banner contest. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and includes a T-shirt. Registration $15 adults, $10 students, $7 children under 10. 9 a.m.
