2002 Te Kairanga Sauvignon Blanc
Martinborough, New Zealand
$13-$15

New Zealand's superb Sauvignon Blancs with their racy, crisp style have come into their own, eclipsing the efforts of many of the world's other wine regions in producing dazzling wines from sassy Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Martinborough, near the southern tip of New Zealand's north island, is just across Cook's Strait from the South Island's celebrated Marlborough region. An intensely flavored wine of great clarity and balance, the wine exhibits classic Sauvignon Blanc varietal character. Lively aromas of passionfruit and citrus give way to grapefruit undertones and a zingy acidity with a clean, crisp finish. Good with oysters, fish, shellfish, salmon, chicken, salads and pasta. Available at Elio's Wine Warehouse, The Wine Seller, Dorignac's, Foodies Kitchen in Metairie, and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Covington.
