Grand opening of library's Teen Center with performance by the International House of Blues Foundation Band along with program exploring the history of the blues and its impact. T.R.E.E. B'EARTHDAY PARTY. City Park, Couturie Forest on Harrison Avenue, 895-2772. Local environmental education group Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.) celebrates its eighth year of operating with children's activities such as crafts and a scavenger hunt. ENCOUNTER LOUISIANA: CONFLUENCE AND CONFLICT IN LITERARY CURRENTS. Old Metairie Library, 2350 Metairie Road, 838-1100. Return of six-week program of readings and discussions on Louisiana's cultural diversity as reflected in literature. This week examines Old Creole Days by George Washington Cable in session "French Louisiana and Its Legacies." Free admission, advance registration requested. 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

ARTSPEAK. Contemporary Arts Center, 900 Camp St., 528-3805. Monthly series of artist-led discussions. This session features David Bradshaw, Kathy Randels and Heather Weathers discussing their work with moderator Shawn Hall. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

THURSDAYS AT TWILIGHT GARDEN CONCERT SERIES. City Park, New Orleans Botanical Garden, 483-9386. Weekly concert and garden tour "Plants of the Louisiana Purchase." This week: "Mozart and Mint Juleps" featuring soprano Hallie Lanier White with pianist Albinas Prizgintas. Free with admission to the Botanical Garden, $5 adults, $2 children 5-12. 5 p.m. gardens open, 6 p.m. concert.

YOUNG LEADERSHIP COUNCIL FUNDRAISER. Club Ampersand, 1100 Tulane Ave., 232-6222. The Young Leadership Council (YLC) hosts annual spring fundraiser with theme "Betting on the Future of New Orleans" with food, entertainment, open bar, a raffle and silent auction. Tickets $25 advance, $35 at door. 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

LUNAR ECLIPSE VIEWING. Audubon Louisiana Nature Center, Read Boulevard exit off I-10, Joe Brown Memorial Park, 378-4118. First full lunar eclipse since July 2000 viewed with provided telescopes and staff to give direction. Planetarium shows also scheduled, and Interpretive Center will be open. Admission $5 adults, $4 seniors and $3 children. 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with darkest time projected at 9:40 p.m.

WINE AND CHEESE TASTING. The Alliance Francaise, 1519 Jackson Ave., 568-0770. The Alliance Francaise hosts a wine and cheese tasting along with short presentation on various cheeses and assorted Cotes du Rhones wines. Reservations requested by May 14. Admission $20 AF members, $25 non-members. 6 p.m.

SPAYMART SPRING GALA AND AUCTION. Hotel Monaco, 333 St. Charles Ave., 838-9167. Local nonprofit SpayMart Inc. that assists homeless animals presents Fifth Annual Spring Gala and Auction, featuring food, entertainment, palm reading, free photos, live and silent auctions and more. Admission $100 per person. 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

AN EVENING OF STYLE: A TRIBUTE TO AUDREY HEPBURN. International House, 221 Camp St., 200-6505. Fifth annual event featuring silent auction on fashion and art, champagne, hors d'oeuvres, music from Jonathan Batiste, screening of Hepburn films during 7 p.m. auction preview and VIP Garden Party. At 8:30 p.m. fundraiser for Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund begins, featuring music from Troy Andrews Band. Preview and VIP party $125 per person, 8:30 p.m. party $20 admission; proceeds benefit the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund.

BIKE NEW ORLEANS. City Park, Marconi Meadows, 288-8228. Fourth annual event through 25-mile path of city streets for bicycles, tricycles, unicycles and side-cars. Helmets required; NOPD will monitor traffic. Registration $30 adults, $16 children under 15, $75 for a family of four; fee includes T-shirt and post-party with entertainment, food and drink. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BYWATER ART MARKET. New Orleans Conservation Guild, 3301 Chartres St., 944-7900. Monthly display of paintings, pottery, photography, jewelry, furniture and sculpture made by area artists. Free admission. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

LOUISIANA QUILT DOCUMENTATION DAY. Jane O'Brien Chatelain West Bank Regional Library, 2751 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, 364-2660. Expert Dr. Laura Westbrook will view historic and contemporary quilts brought in by owners for documentation as part of a project for a searchable Louisiana quilt Web site. Also, the Gulf States Quilters Association presents exhibit, and children's' activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. Free admission. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

MADISONVILLE, THAT ONE PARTICULAR HARBOR. Marina Del Ray Restaurant and Bar, 100 Marina Del Ray Drive, Madisonville, (985) 792-1555. Fourth-annual Jimmy Buffett-themed party featuring a crawfish boil cook-off, live music at 2 p.m. by Mike Miller and 6 p.m. by The Island Fever Band, and "The World's Largest Party Barge." Admission $15 for music and all-you-can-eat crawfish, $10 no crawfish. 2 p.m.-until.

BELLY DANCING WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE. Radisson Hotel, 1500 Canal St., 242-4758. International belly dancer Sahra Saeeda presents performance with other belly dancers from around the South. Also, Saturday she holds a workshop on the signature styles of Egyptian film stars of the 1920s from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday on styles of modern Egyptian masters from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Performance $10 admission, each workshop $60. Performance 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Annual Home and Garden Tour presented by Bywater Neighborhood Association, focusing on restoration efforts in homes and businesses along Lesseps Street and Poland Avenue. Tickets $5 BNA members, $10 general. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

UNO REUNION JAZZ BRUNCH. Wyndham Hotel, Shops at Canal Place, 333 Canal St., 280-6159. The University of New Orleans International Alumni Association presents 41st annual Reunion Jazz Brunch for all school alumni featuring UNO Chancellor Gregory O'Brien's annual State of the University address, the opening of alumni and visitors center, live music and more. Tickets $40 general, $60 patron admission. 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

CULTURAL OUTREACH PARTY. Cafe Brasil, 2100 Chartres St., 949-0851. Inter-Fest 2003 presents a "Cultural Outreach Party" with live performances and salsa lessons featuring percussionist Pupi Menes of Otra and Fredy Omar con su Banda, salsa dancer Suzanne Fusann and Caribbean Connection cable-access TV show host Chryslyne Fenelus. Donation $5, includes hors d'oeuvres. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

MO'S CHALET GOLF TOURNAMENT. Bayou Barriere Golf Club, 7427 Hwy. 23, Belle Chasse, 780-2961. Fourteenth annual golf tournament benefitting Camp Challenge, a local nonprofit providing camping experiences for youth cancer survivors, parents and siblings. Event features "best ball" shotgun start, food and drinks on course, BBQ and awards ceremony afterwards at Mo's Chalet. Registration deadline May 19, event held Sunday, May 25 at 9 a.m. Registration $60. 9 a.m.
