2000 Zydeco Rosato, Pontchartrain Vineyards
Bush, Louisiana
$9-$12

Owner/winemaker John Seago's determination to produce palatable wines to pair with regional cuisine has been a story of both struggle and success. Zydeco Rosato, a rose-style wine (yes, it's pink!) is made from estate-grown Blanc du Bois, a Euro-North American hybrid, with a little Syrah and a touch of Cabernet for color and flavor. Tropical fruit aromas with hints of spice lead to like flavors with more intensity on the palate. Serve well-chilled. A great food wine, especially with Louisiana cuisine such as boiled crawfish, jambalaya, shrimp Creole, crawfish etouffee and blackened fish. Available at Robert's Fresh Markets, Toulouse House Grocery, Joe's French Quarter Wine Cellar, Sidney's Wine Cellar, Dorignac's, Martin Wine Cellar in Metairie, and Sav-A-Centers on Tchoupitoulas Street and on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie.
