2000 Paul Jaboulet Parallele "45"
Cotes du Rhone, France
$8-$10
Paul Jaboulet Aine, a well-respected vineyard owner and shipper, has produced many fine Rhone Valley wines during its nearly 170 years of operation. A blend of 85 percent Grenache and 15 percent Syrah, Parallele 45 was aged in oak casks followed by months of bottle aging. Intense aromas of red fruit, black cherry and licorice are followed by raspberry, cherry, dried herbs and spices on the palate. A firm, rounded tannic structure. Good with roast meats, fowl and game, pasta with meat sauce, grilled vegetables, pizza and barbecue. Available at Prytania Liquor Store, The Wine Seller, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, both Martin Wine Cellar locations, Dorignac's, Rouse's Supermarket #14, Breaux Mart on Severn Avenue in Metairie, Cost Plus World Markets in Elmwood and Harvey, and Acquistapace's Covington Super Market.
