2001 Yvecourt Bordeaux Blanc
France
$7-$8

Many of France's classic dessert wines are produced in Bordeaux's southern region including the renowned Chateau d'Yquem from Sauternes with additional choices from neighboring Barsac and other areas. Although the traditional style of Bordeaux's white wines blends Semillon with Sauvignon Blanc for a fruity, somewhat sweet wine, the Yvecourt is 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc and bone-dry. The clear, straw-tinted wine offers a complex bouquet of mango, citrus and floral notes with lots of finesse. On the palate, the sensory encounter continues with flavors of fruit, mild spices and citrus-like zest. A very food-friendly wine, Yvecourt provides a pleasant aperitif as well as pairing well with fish dishes, salads, shellfish and seafood. Available at Whole Foods Market on Esplanade Avenue, Prytania Liquor Store, Elio's Wine Warehouse, Cork & Bottle and Langenstein's in Metairie.
