Ochsner Clinic Foundation
was one of three hospitals in the country to win a 2003 Innovator Award from Hospitals and Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association. In its 2003 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study, the journal cited Ochsner's new Bed Control technology, adopted to make patient turnaround more efficient and to ease chronic shortages of hospital beds.

Jennifer Magee,
CEO of the Keating Magee Advertising agency, was recently presented with the Crescent Award for altruism and pro bono work by Entercom New Orleans and WWL-AM. The communications companies recognized Magee's personal and professional contributions to such societies as United Way of Greater New Orleans, the New Orleans Opera Association, National Donor Awareness Foundation, and many local schools.

Some New Orleans police
went overboard in their vigilance to round up truant students last week, when they picked up more than 80 students who were 10 minutes late to John F. Kennedy Senior High School due to a delay in the RTA bus schedule. Police rounded up the kids at 8:40 a.m., before the accepted deadline of 9 a.m., and without drawing the logical conclusion that the 80 students walking toward the school in a group were probably not cutting class.

Cox Communications
has announced that, on Sept. 5, it will start charging a $5 "payment assistance" fee to customers who pay their bills at the Cox Service Center or over the phone. A Cox representative explained the move is intended to discourage subscribers from monopolizing the customer service operators' time with bill payments. The fee actually cheapens the notion of customer service and places an added burden on those who can least afford another fee.
