The Preservation Resource Center's 19th annual effort helps low-income, elderly or disabled homeowners improve their homes with volunteer home-repair efforts. TRI 5K CLASSIC. City Park, 246-382. St. Mary's Academy, St. Augustine and Xavier Prep compete for proceeds to benefit technology funds for their schools. Features performances by all three school's marching bands. Registration $20. 8 a.m.

HISPANIC CULTURAL FAIR. East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie, 838-1100. The Louisiana Regional Folklife Program at the University of New Orleans present a fair celebrating Hispanic cultural history. Those of Hispanic descent encouraged to bring stories and crafts. RACE FOR THE CURE.
City Park at Roosevelt Mall, 482-6682. The Komen Breast Cancer Foundation hosts race to raise funds for breast cancer research, education and treatment. Event also features "Milk Mustache Model," with visitors allowed to pose with milk mustaches, try new flavors and consult with a dietician. Model event free admission. Food and entertainment follows race. Pre-registration $20, $25 day of race, $10 17 and under. Model event 7 a.m., race registration 7:45 a.m., race 9 a.m.

WALK/RUN FOR BATTERED WOMEN. Packenham Oaks, corner of Paris Road and St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette, 277-3178. Walk/run to promote awareness of domestic violence. Open to men, women and children. Post-race party includes food and entertainment. Advanced registration $20. 8 a.m.

NATURE PROGRAMS.
Fountainbleau State Park, southeast of Mandeville on U.S. Hwy. 190, (888) 677-3668. Flyways and Byways program features a guided hike with bird-watching. Later, naturalist leads a forest walk along the nature trail. Admission $2 per vehicle. Flyways and Byways 8 a.m, forest hike 2 p.m.

HYTHM AND BLUES EXPO. The Howlin' Wolf, 828 S. Peters St., 529-5844. Little Buster Records and the National Federation of the Blind present concert to raise awareness about blindness.
