2002 Hopler Gruner Veltliner
Austria $12-$15
Wines from Austria's most popular grape, Gruner Veltliner, have been making a big splash in wine glasses across America. Viewed as an alternative white wine, Gruner is praised as lively, appealing and food-friendly. Floral aromas with hints of lemon and apricot, and a subtle stony, mineraly character imparted from granite soils. Light bodies, but rich with fully ripened fruit flavors and good extract. Delicious by itself as an aperitif, or with cold canapes, foie gras with cooked apples, delicate salads and a variety of soft cheeses. Available at The Wine Seller, Martin's Wine Cellar's Uptown location, Whole Foods Market on Esplanade Avenue, Cellars of River Ridge, Juice Fine Wines on Village Walk in Covington and Wine Down in Mandeville.
