Blissful Experiences

Spa owner Nancy Lovejoy finds a range of products
to fill the bill for her customers at Bliss Day Spa and
Hop in Old Metairie.
|
With a name like Bliss Day Spa and Shop
(200 Metairie Road, Metairie, 828-1997), customers expect a wonderful experience
that lifts their spirits and relaxes their bodies. For more than half a decade,
owner Nancy Lovejoy has made sure her spa lives up to its name, with services
including manicures, pedicures, facials, body massages, reflexology, skin resurfacing
and peels, waxing and other treatments.
"The reason I used the name was that my father,
before he died of colon cancer, told his children, 'I want you to follow your
bliss,'" Lovejoy says, adding that bliss meant their dreams. "This has been
mine." Despite its philosophical and sentimental meaning, Lovejoy says she now
is prepared to change her business' name due to a 5-year dispute with a New
York spa that bears the same name. In January, the Old Metairie spa's name will
change to Lovejoy, which imbues the same promises of bliss as well as specifying
who is making the guarantees.
"I think when your name's on it, it takes
it to a whole other level," Lovejoy says. "I'm already closely associated with
the spa ... and I'm definitely excited about having my name on it."
Customers can buy single services or go for
packages such as the Day of Bliss, which includes a spa manicure and pedicure,
an hour-long full-body massage, a deluxe facial, lunch and a special gift. The
Pure Bliss package includes a 60-minute full-body massage, half-hour foot reflexology
and a 15-minute scalp massage. Bliss also offers rejuvenating seaweed body treatments,
body polishes, mud treatments, wraps, tanning services, and more. There also
are services just for men, including men's manicures, pedicures and facials,
or the Bliss Him Out package: a 60-minute head-to-toe massage and 30-minute
foot reflexology.
In addition to services aimed at relaxing
and rejuvenating the body and spirit, Bliss also offers skin and body products
from such national names as Bert's Bees, Brumble and Brumble, Crabtree & Evelyn,
The Thymes, Archipelago Botanicals and local makers such as Dr. Mary Lupo, Dermaware
and Dr. Murads.
Lovejoy also has stocked her store with several
lines of jewelry, including items from local artist Olga; clothing from Three
Dots; home decorating accessories, including beautiful bottles and jars, picture
frames, perfume bottles, candles, decorative soaps, cosmetic and jewelry bags,
Lampe Bergers and other merchandise.
"I constantly go to market and scope out new,
fun things," she says. "We listen to what customers want and add them; I just
make sure it all has some style to it."
