2000 Rocca Delle Macie
Chianti Classico, Italy $9-$12
A value-priced wine from the historic Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Rocca Delle Macie is made from 95 percent Sangiovese and 5 percent Merlot. The estate uses organic fertilization, careful pruning, hand harvesting and oak aging for six to 10 months in small barriques. Intense floral aromas combine with ripe raspberry and dried plums followed by plums, dried herbs, hints of wild berries and oaky nuances. The wine will age well for the next five to six years. Good with pasta dishes, roasted and grilled meats, and garlic and rosemary chicken. Available at Elio's Wine Warehouse, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, Sidney's Wine Cellar, Dorignac's, Langenstein's (Metairie location), Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville and Acquistapace's Covington Supermarket.
